Anya (short for Ganna) lives in Ukraine, one of the ex-Soviet republics, which became famous all over the world after the Chernobyl accident. She lives in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

Anya has a brother and three sisters. They live in a two-room apartment. Anya’s father still works as a driver and her mother works as a teacher at kindergarten and as a florist.  Health-wise Anya doesn’t have problems. The family attends a local Christian church on holidays.

Anya is in the fourth grade now. Her favorite subjects are reading, music and math. In her free time Anya likes to play with her cat named Matvey and to draw. She also learns to play the harp. They alao have a rabbit at home named Pushok and a turtle, Donatella. Last year the most significant event for Anya was her first big concert with a choir and a victory in contest on common development where she sang and danced. Anya would like to be a dentist when she grows up.
