This video interview explaning Orthodox Christianity is meant as an educational tool for EEO mission trip participants. We desire to help you to understand the primary religion and belief system of the people you are trying to reach with the message of one placing their faith in Christ.
We do not endorse the views expressed here, but simply offer this resource for better understanding. As you watch, you will notice, that Orthodoxy does not emphasize a "personal prayer of faith" or a "moment in time" when one becomes born again. Instead, the priest will speak of being "infused" with Christ's Nature, and we human beings sharing both humanity (sinful) and divinity (eternal) at the same time.
Western evangelical believers generally believe in being "saved" or "spiritually reborn" as Jesus spoke of in John 3:3. This message of certainity, that one may know for certain that they are and have been "saved" because of the sincere prayer of repentance they prayed, is a message that is foreign, and generally of interest to people in eastern or slavic countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Greece, Armenia, Romania and many others.
Enjoy learning about Orthodoxy, and thus, learning about your own faith.
